Climate Change and Ocean Acidification (at the 11th Pacific Science Inter-Congress)
2-6 March 2009, Tahiti

This is one of the five sub-themes of the conference. The aim is two fold: (1) Describe and assess the variability of climate, past and future, in the context of the present greenhouse effect. (2) Document the extent, magnitude and future trajectory of ocean acidification in the Pacific region, its impact on marine organisms and ecosystems, and its potential socio-economic implications.
Co-chair: Julie Cole and Jean-Pierre Gattuso (gattuso@obs-vlfr.fr)

International Scientific Congress on Climate Change (IARU)
10-12 March 2009, Copenhagen, Denmark

The purpose of the congress is to try and capture some of the enormous research energy currently being devoted to the elucidation, mitigation and adaptation to climate change. Multiple sessions on the carbon cycle.
Organised by the International Alliance of Research Universities (IARU)

Land Use Change due to Bioenergy   – Quantifying and Managing  Greenhouse Gas and other Environmental Impacts
30 March - 1 April 2009, Helsinki, Finland
Workshop Goals: (1) share knowledge and increase understanding of  land use change resulting from expansion of bioenergy:  impacts on  net greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and other environmental   services; approaches to evaluation of impacts; inclusion in GHG accounting; approaches to management  of  indirect land use change; and (2) establish  teams to prepare working documents for a side event at COP-15 (Copenhagen).
An optional field excursion to an operating bioenergy facility in the area will follow the workshop.

Biomass in Future Landscapes
31 March - 1 April 2009, Berlin, Germany
The conference is organised by the German Biomass Research Center (DBFZ) in cooperation with the Leibniz Centre for Agricultural Landscape Research (ZALF). The aim is to discuss sustainable biomass use in the context of spatial planning. Key issues are the current and future status of global biomass-use, identification of relevant potentials and possible impacts of the exploitation. Please register early as the number of participants is limited.

Workshop in marine and terrestrial productivity under climate change
12-13 May 2009, Denmark.
How will the expected climate changes affect marine and terrestrial productivity, and which feedback mechanisms exist from ecosystem changes to climate?
This workshop is part of the DTU Climate Change Technologies Programme focusing on assessment of and adaptation to climate changes as well as on mitigation of green house gasses (GHG).
Recommendations from these workshops will be presented at a high-level conference in September 2009.
